As the Head of Site Engineering & Maintenance, you will ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all site facilities and production equipment, in accordance with regulatory requirements and Sanofi guidelines. You will provide Engineering leadership across the plant, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of production systems, and occasionally cover responsibilities related to site infrastructure and safety.

About the M&S Campus Frankfurt

The M&S Campus Frankfurt is a Campus which includes 4 different Manufacturing Units: API Production, Fill & Finish and Device Assembly as well as a Launch Unit to ensure first to market launch of new products. It comprises around 4.000 employees across more than 10 buildings. The site produces a full Insulin range, legacy Pharma products, Oncology and Biologics (packaging), and monoclonal antibodies (device assembly and packaging). Our technologies include API production via fermentation, sterile filling, device assembly, packaging, and special forms (e.g., powder coating, creams, ointments, implants, microparticles).

About the job 

As Head of Campus Engineering & Maintenance for our M&S Campus Frankfurt, you will lead and provide leadership to the maintenance and engineering functions in accordance with regulatory and Group Engineering, HSE & Quality guidelines. You will be responsible for an Engineering & Maintenance department covering approximately 650 employees.

This position requires not only technical expertise but also profound transformation & change management skills to lead the recently started transformation journey of the site from an engineering & maintenance perspective.

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the transformation to a centralized and efficient Engineering and Maintenance department
  • Own the site master plan and contribute to building the Investment Strategy and Long Range Plan

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure efficient, reliable, and high-quality maintenance, facilities, and utilities operations
  • Manage the functionality and proper maintenance of all equipment in compliance with GMP
  • Deploy and ensure effectiveness of the Asset Management and Maintenance Roadmap
  • Translate site goals into departmental goals and manage annual objectives, financial budgets, and headcount targets
  • Establish and manage relationships with contractors to ensure quality and compliance

Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with Quality and HSE to drive harmonization and fulfillment of compliance programs
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement using Lean methodologies
  • Participate in the Sanofi Global Engineering and Maintenance network for establishing common standards

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide input and studies to support decision making process with site leadership team and central function
  • Deciding on the initiation and funding of capital projects
  • Capital Project delivery model (workforce, study, execution & CQV plan, contracts with 3rd party…) for design to closure
  • Making decisions on the allocation of the reliability engineering to optimize manufacturing output and maintenance cost
  • Making decisions on the allocation of the engineering and maintenance budget to various projects and operational needs
  • Advising on strategies to ensure all engineering, automation & maintenance activities comply with industry regulations & standards
  • Implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality within the engineering and maintenance groups
  • Selection and management of external contractors and suppliers to ensure they meet the company’s standards and requirements
  • on site needs and strategic workforce planning

About you

Experience / Education / Languages:

  • Biopharma Manufacturing: Extensive experience managing engineering and maintenance in a GMP-compliant biopharma environment.
  • Technical Maintenance: Significant experience in maintaining and optimizing biopharma production equipment and facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in Biochemical Engineering. A master's or Ph.D. in Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Professional Certifications: Relevant certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or Six Sigma can be advantageous.
  • German, Fluency in English, both written and verbal

Technical skills:

  • Project Management: Proficiency in planning, executing, and monitoring large-scale projects. 
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of engineering & maintenance principles on pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. 
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry regulations, including GMP and FDA standards. 
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to address technical issues.
