Within MSAT (Manufacturing Science & Technology) Synthetics organization, we are establishing a Chemistry Excellence Center dedicated to innovation in API process development and green chemistry. Our mission includes the advancement of innovative new molecules as well as new modalities such as synthetic RNA and novel excipients for cutting-edge drug delivery systems.

As Laboratory Manager – New Modalities Development, you will lead a team working at the interface of traditional small-molecule chemistry and next-generation therapeutic platforms. You will support the design, optimization, and scale-up of synthetic routes and production processes – from lab bench to GMP batches – for novel nucleic acids and lipid-based excipients used in advanced therapies. 

This is a unique chance to play a strategic and hands-on role in shaping tomorrow’s medicines.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of Technical Engineers and/or Laboratory Technicians.
  • Oversee lab activities, ensuring high-quality, reproducible results and effective project execution.
  • Carry out scientific research / bibliography and proposing areas of work to resolve of technical or scientific issues.
  • Drive the development and scale-up of solid-phase synthesis processes for nucleic acids and assess sustainable solution as 2nd generation process. 
  • Lead the development and support the industrialization of vaccine excipient like lipid used in lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations.
  • Participate in internal and external tech transfers, ensuring seamless knowledge flow and PPQ success.
  • Promote and apply green chemistry and risk-based approaches to develop safe and scalable processes.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external CDMOs throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including reports and regulatory filings.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies and contribute actively to innovation initiatives.
  • Organize laboratory operations efficiently: define work plans, manage schedules and team objectives, and support development plans (IDPs).
  • Promote a strong safety culture and compliance with HSE practices and behaviors.

About you

  • Education:
    • MSc or PhD in Organic Chemistry, with a hands-on experience in nucleic acid chemistry
    • Minimum 5 years in the Pharmaceutical Industry, including successful experience in process development and industrialization.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and solid-phase synthesis (e.g., oligonucleotides).
    • Experience in lipid and/or peptide synthesis is a strong plus.
    • Proficient in synthetic route scouting, kilo lab operations, and scale-up methodologies.
    • Solid understanding of GMP, process safety, and regulatory expectations for clinical manufacturing.

  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong scientific rigor, problem-solving ability, and proactive mindset.
    • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
    • Curious, adaptive, goal-oriented and driven by innovation

  • Languages:
    • Fluency in French and professional proficiency in English.
