This position is within the Analytical Sciences Department of Vaccine R&D. This team supports new vaccines development and commercialized vaccines, from the cell banks manufacturing stage to the final products. The teams are specialized in Microbiology and Molecular Biology, in Immunology and Biochemistry. Analytical Sciences Department works with the other departments in Process Development, Research, Manufacturing technology in concert on delivering into and enriching a competitive company pipeline in vaccines.
The group needs you in line with the Sanofi’s “Play To Win” Digital Data Strategy, which will ultimately place the organization as a champion of technology & analytics-enabled R&D. You will apply your programming and bio-informatics expertise to link between the laboratory and the information systems such that the researchers will have the tools and ability to leverage the power in the data generated across the organization. The role will also require identifying scripts external to the organization and where appropriate internalizing them into the R&D platform.
Main responsibilities:
- Participating in the definition of analysis strategies, setting up tools and pipelines, conducting analyses, validating analyses, supporting users… for GMP and non-GMP batches
- Aggregating existing analysis pipelines from bacterial, viral or plasmid genomic data
- Identifying microorganisms used in vaccine manufacturing processes from high-throughput sequencing data
- Maintaining existing pipelines and supporting or transferring developed pipelines to other teams
- Participating in the implementation of a cloud environment for storing bioinformatics analysis pipelines and the computational solutions necessary for the service
- Setting up bioinformatics analysis pipelines under Snakemake for analyzing data from HTS platforms (Illumina and Oxford Nanopore) for simplified analysis by laboratory technicians
About you
Experience:
- Well-experienced with programming in Bash and others script languages (Rust, R, Python and/or Perl) as well as good development practicing with continuous integration testing and code-quality lint tests (CI/CD)
- Experience in microbiology and genomics, particularly on bacterial and viral genomes
- Ability to train biologists in the use of tools would be a plus (teaching mindset)
Soft and technical skills:
- Knowledge of state-of-the-art genomics analysis such as data trimming, QC, sequence alignment, variant calling, de novo assembly, genome annotations and whole genome comparison
- Understanding of Unix systems administration, cloud computing, GPU computing, reproducible environment (Docker, singularity, conda, rattler-build) data management
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
Education:
- PhD in bioinformatics or related field and 5+ years experience in a research laboratory or life science industry
