The Lead Maintenance Technician provides electrical and instrumentation engineering support primarily in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of electrical equipment, process instrumentation devices, and utility systems. The role plays a critical part in ensuring the reliability, compliance, and operational readiness of manufacturing and utility equipment within the site.
The incumbent will support maintenance execution activities across process and utility systems while ensuring compliance with cGMP, HSE, quality, and regulatory standards. This role also requires strong technical leadership capabilities to guide junior technicians, coordinate maintenance activities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across maintenance operations.
The technician will report directly to the E&I Lead and work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to support site operational excellence and engineering reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical & Instrumentation Maintenance
- Perform preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities for electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and instrumentation systems used in process equipment and utilities.
- Troubleshoot and repair motors, VFDs, MCCs, process instrumentation, power distribution systems, and monitoring devices to ensure operational reliability.
- Execute routine and non-routine calibration activities for field instruments including FT, LT, TT, PT, and other instrumentation in accordance with site calibration schedules and procedures.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are safely executed, properly documented, and compliant with engineering, GMP, and operational standards.
Maintenance Planning & Execution
- Strategically assign and coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance activities to technicians to ensure timely and effective maintenance execution.
- Manage timely closure of corrective maintenance work orders within CMMS / IShift systems while minimizing operational downtime.
- Raise Purchase Requisitions for maintenance requirements and coordinate procurement activities through goods receipt and completion.
- Support maintenance-related investigations, change controls, deviations, CAPA activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Support reliability and operational excellence initiatives through proactive troubleshooting, root cause investigations, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Participate in continuous improvement programs focused on maintenance optimization, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency enhancements.
- Provide technical feedback to engineering and reliability teams on maintainability improvements, equipment optimization, and safety enhancements.
- Drive implementation of maintenance best practices, standardized procedures, and performance improvement initiatives.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and regulatory requirements including cGMP, HSE, PTW, LOTO, Quality, and Life Saving Rules (LSR).
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safe engineering practices, and operational discipline across all maintenance activities.
- Take ownership of quality and compliance in all maintenance work impacting product quality and plant operations.
- Support audits, inspections, and compliance readiness activities while promoting a Zero Incident Mindset culture.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Train, mentor, and support junior technicians in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical skill development.
- Coordinate effectively with contractors, vendors, operations, engineering, and cross-functional teams to support maintenance objectives.
- Support knowledge sharing and capability development initiatives within the maintenance and engineering teams.
- Provide technical support during commissioning, startup, maintenance projects, and operational readiness activities.
Qualifications & Requirements
- ITE / Diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in electrical & instrumentation maintenance within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, or process manufacturing environments.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting experience with motors, VFDs, MCCs, instrumentation systems, utilities, and process equipment.
- Experience with CMMS systems, calibration activities, preventive maintenance, and breakdown maintenance execution.
- Good understanding of cGMP, HSE, PTW, LOTO, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.
- Previous experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology manufacturing environments will be an added advantage.
Additional Accountabilities
Other responsibilities not specifically listed above but related to Electrical & Instrumentation assignments may be assigned as required to support operational and business needs.
