Job Summary:
The incumbent drives automation engineering activities for strategic capital and site operational improvement projects. This position also provides automation support for commissioning, qualification, and manufacturing operations. The incumbent must have a proven record of working independently within a matrixed project team and providing analysis and appropriate solutions. This position is also responsible for implementing new solutions and modifications to our existing manufacturing process systems while adhering to established Engineering best practices and regulatory compliance requirements.
The incumbent needs to be able to demonstrate and communicate good technical understanding of the automation systems and defend technical design decisions. The incumbent will manage configuration, system architecture, and interface with relevant stakeholders include ITS, Integrated Manufacturing Systems (IMS), and end users. The incumbent is accountable for acting and involved in producing designs and then implementing the designs (commissioning and qualification post installation) according to SPL best practices.

Main responsibilities:
Create data architectures to capture time-series data and enable end-user creation of dashboards for easy data analysis and visualization.
Technical aptitude/understanding across a broad number of subjects including vaccine processes and equipment, data management and lifecycles, data historians, digital infrastructure integration, and manufacturing IT/OT systems.
Advance connectivity and cybersecurity compliance initiatives for site automation systems
Design development and specifications. Responsible for automation engineering deliverables that meet URS and compliance requirements including best practices guidelines. Depending on project, some deliverables may be generated internally while other times by external engineering. Perform appropriate reviews with stakeholders and ensure internal or external designs meet system requirements and adhere to specifications.
Implementation, commissioning and qualification execution for accountable systems. Review C&Q test plans for technical content. Manage and track the work of suppliers and service providers to ensure quality deliverables.
Technical support for projects and manufacturing. Provide technical guidance across internal, operations, and MSAT teams upon request and implement system improvements to meet user needs and accommodate integration with other digital systems such as MES, PI, or Ignition. Responsible to understand site specific standards and procedures.
Ability to work in a collaborative shared space in a large and complex project environment where quick critical thinking and decision-making is required.
About you
Education:
Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Science or Computer Science or equivalent job certificate / education.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years direct experience in automation engineering or digital manufacturing solutions.
Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases, digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity is mandatory.
Additional experience in operational support, qualification and/or validation is preferred.
Soft and Technical Skills:
Individual must have strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
Working knowledge of AVEVA PI data historian is required. Experience with PLCs, Ignition, or DeltaV is an asset.
Working knowledge of unit operations typically used in biotech and vaccine manufacturing such as bulk manufacturing, downstream operations, formulation, steaming (SIP) and cleaning (CIP) is an asset but is not mandatory.
Must understand the relationship between Good Manufacturing Practices, industry standards and their application to the manufacturing process.
Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external team members is essential. Individual must have a proven ability to drive project execution.
Strong analytical skills (engineering analysis).
