This role is a site Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) leader, connected to Sanofi’s global HSE function whose mission is to build first in class HSE team and performance by designing and deploying HSE flagship programs, by enhancing HSE culture, capability and leadership for all, by ensuring compliance.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Secure the site license to operate regarding Health, Safety and Environment regulations and permit, avoid administrative notice and lead relationship with external legal Authorities and local stakeholders. Ensure the site’s compliance to all relevant HSE and security regulations and standards (local, provincial, and federal regulations).  Act as the primary HSE contact for regulatory authorities and certification bodies.

  • Coordinate the site's risk assessment and site's risk mitigation process to identify, anticipate and mitigate main identified major risk for the site related to HSE topics: Risk of administrative notice, risk of people injuries, risk of environmental pollution, risk of reputation. Ensure adequate allocation of resources (capex, opex, headcount) to mitigate the major risks.

  • Build and maintain the site's HSE management system to ensure a full compliance with Sanofi requirements & processes, adoption and adherence to Sanofi Digital Core model, engagement on the company global certifications and ensure the quality of reporting's of all HSE data consolidated and published at the company level. Lead and monitor adherence to policies.

  • Define and drive the site's HSE continuous improvement plan according to the site-specific risks to achieve the site and the global Compelling Business Needs (CBNs) and roadmaps. Prepare and lead the regular HSE management review at site level and with above site senior management and global HSE teams.

  • Establish and maintain a robust HSE governance framework across the site.

  • Lead & promote proactive HSE culture and capabilities by providing training, education and/or relevant program to all site employees. Drive the HSE culture of and compliance through leadership and influence.

  • Provide in-depth HSE knowledge, expertise, coaching to all the departments of the site in order to integrate HSE as a key performance lever: expertise for HSE by design in the projects, Thoughtful Risk Taking approach.

  • Organize the HSE event management: capture of all HSE events, full investigations and mitigations, reporting (injuries, pollution, PSE) to insure healthy proactive reporting and prevention of any recurring events.

  • Lead local HSE emergency response and HSE crisis management activities

  • Lead HSE operational activities and manage the site's HSE team including hiring, training, coaching, HSE capabilities developing and performance evaluation which drive an excellence operating mindset.  Unleash the potential of each member of your team.

About You

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelors in Life Sciences, Engineering or other relevant discipline.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Preferably 5 years in HSE management.

  • Proficiency in terms of Occupational Hygiene, Safety, Environmental expertise, product stewardship (& security)

  • High level of proficiency in management systems, Regulatory knowledge, matrix management, project management, and striving for results

  • Demonstrated proficiency in strategic thinking, organizational change management, ability to influence is preferred

  • Direct management and transversal management skills.

  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken

  • Strong abilities to coach and animate to drive transformation and HSE performance

  • Ability to take timely and data-based decisions in a fast moving and complex environment to drive performance and progress 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop employees to reach their highest potential

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to inspire and motivate is preferred

  • Strong collaboration skills.

HSE requirements

  • Supervises and monitors compliance with employment and health and safety legislation to ensure that employees work within the policies, procedures and regulations applicable to their work.

  • Participates in the investigation of incidents and work-related illnesses

  • Responds promptly to all health and safety concerns or incidents and completes the appropriate documentation in a timely manner

  • Takes every reasonable precaution to ensure the health and safety of staff

  • Ensures that protective equipment and clothing required is used by staff

  • Cooperates and assists the Joint Health and Safety Committee in carrying out its functions

  • Advises staff of any potential or actual health and safety hazard of which they are aware
