About the Job
The Head of Regional Logistics is responsible for leading and optimizing the logistics and distribution operations at a region level, ensuring that the flow of goods to customers is efficient, compliant and cost-effective, adhering to Global Logistics Strategy. This includes managing regional warehousing, transportation and 3PL/4PL provider relationships, as appropriate. This person ensures that the region’s operations are aligned with the global logistics strategy set by the Head of Global Distribution and by the Head of Global Transport. The Regional Logistics Lead’s key objective will be to ensure the delivery of products in a timely, efficient, and compliant manner while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
A large part of the role is to lead the Regional Logistics teams to high sustainable performance.
This role is pivotal in ensuring that logistics performance supports company’s strategic business goals, including customer service excellence, regulatory compliance, and cost control. Cross-functional collaboration with other region Leads/Heads of distribution/logistics, supply chain, procurement and regulatory teams to implement the global distribution strategy at a local level is required.
This position requires a visionary leader capable of navigating intricate stakeholder matrices, driving organizational transformation, and implementing innovative logistics solutions that align with enterprise-wide strategic imperatives. The role encompasses comprehensive P&L accountability, advanced risk management frameworks, and the orchestration of sophisticated third-party logistics ecosystems while ensuring adherence to evolving regulatory landscapes and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) commitments.
The incumbent will spearhead digital transformation initiatives, implement predictive supply chain resilience models, and foster a culture of continuous innovation while maintaining unwavering focus on patient-centric service delivery and operational excellence. This role requires close collaboration with Quality, Packaging, and Engineering teams to ensure optimal material selection and distribution center layouts are strategically designed and seamlessly implemented with DHL. The position demands a leader who can assess critical operational challenges, take decisive action, and successfully deliver results during the high-stakes respiratory vaccine season while supporting the broader specialty care business objectives.
Strategic Accountabilities
Team leadership: Ensure a first in class and diverse team by leveraging people competencies, reinforcing capabilities, developing all supply chain people. Ensure proper back-ups are trained and development plans for all individuals in line with People and Culture guidelines. Give valuable, respectful and timely feedback, and lead by example.
Lead Regional Distribution Operations Process: Oversee the entire distribution network within your region, including warehousing, transportation and inventory management, ensuring smooth product flow from manufacturing to customer delivery. Maintain efficient regional warehousing operations that align with the global distribution standards. Review and optimize route to markets with strong focus on balancing business and product strategy, patient needs and cost to serve.
Advanced Third-Party Logistics Ecosystem Management: Develop and manage strategic partnerships with Tier-1 logistics service providers through sophisticated supplier relationship management frameworks. Implement advanced performance management systems incorporating predictive KPIs, real-time dashboards, and automated exception management protocols. Design and execute complex contract negotiations incorporating risk-sharing mechanisms, performance-based pricing models, and innovation partnership clauses. Establish comprehensive vendor governance frameworks including regular business reviews, capability assessments, and strategic roadmap alignment sessions.
Align with Global Distribution & Transportation strategy: Collaborate closely with the Head of Global Distribution and the Head of Global Transport to align regional operations with global logistics and distribution strategies & Global Engineering (network redesign, cold chain monitoring, SRM…), ensuring consistency and coherence across all regions. Provide feedback on regional challenges and contribute to the development of global strategies, policies and standards for distribution and logistics.
Ensure first class business partnership with Heads of GBUs and senior leaders within the Region a to maximize the contribution of the Market Supply Chain Team Massachusetts Bio-Campus, and External Manufacturing and Supply - aligning objectives and expectations, establishing clear lines of engagement / communication, appropriate governance / structures, and operating to the highest standards with common technology, tools, processes and systems for the good of ‘One Sanofi’.
Drive Operational Efficiency and Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings within regional distribution operations. Lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean methodologies, data analytics and industry best practices to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste and drive performance improvements.
Ensure compliance and regulatory adherence: Ensure full compliance with all local, regional and international regulations, including Good Distribution Practices (GDP), customs requirements and import/export regulations. Monitor and mitigate any risks related to logistics, such as regulatory changes, supply chain disruptions or transportation challenges.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with regional Supply Chain, procurement, finance, and regulatory teams to ensure that logistics and distribution efforts are aligned with broader business goals. Serve as the key contact for distribution-related queries and issues in your region, reporting operation performance regularly to the Head of Global Distribution.
Financial Leadership & Investment Decision-Making: Maintain comprehensive P&L accountability for regional logistics operations including financial modeling, investment analysis, and ROI optimization. Oversee and manage the logistics budget for the region, ensuring cost-effectiveness and meeting financial targets for distribution and transportation operations. Regularly review and report on distribution costs, identify cost-savings opportunities and contribute to global cost optimization strategies.
Agility, Strategic Decision-Making, and Responsiveness: The seasonality of vaccines—particularly during respiratory season—combined with the complexity of the specialty care business demands the ability to rapidly develop innovative solutions for multifaceted challenges. Success in this role requires thriving in a fast-paced, just-in-time environment where agility, strategic decision-making, and responsiveness to both internal and external
30% of travel expected including on-site visits to distribution sites across DC network.

About You
Basic Qualifications:
B.S., B.A. or equivalent required, preferably in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field (but will consider all degrees).
Strategic Logistics Management Expertise: Proven track record of managing large scale distribution and logistics operations in a complex, fast-paced, and regulated environment, preferably in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry. Demonstrated expertise in leading large-scale, complex logistics transformations in highly regulated, multi-billion-dollar enterprises. Proven track record of managing sophisticated distribution networks spanning multiple countries, regulatory jurisdictions, and product portfolios. Experience with advanced supply chain optimization, network modeling, and strategic planning in pharmaceutical or life sciences environments.
3PL & LLP Management: experience in managing relationships with third-party logistics providers and lead logistics providers, including negotiations of contracts, performance monitoring and service optimization.
Transportation Management: Expertise in overseeing regional transportation networks, including route optimization, carrier selection and transport capacity management to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
Sophisticated Stakeholder Management: Extensive experience in managing complex stakeholder matrices including C-suite executives, board members, regulatory authorities, and strategic partners. Demonstrated ability to influence without authority, navigate complex organizational politics, and build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.
Advanced Financial Acumen: Comprehensive P&L management experience including complex financial modelling, investment analysis, and capital allocation decisions. Expertise in developing sophisticated cost optimization strategies, value-based pricing models, and ROI analysis for major logistics investments. Proven ability to manage logistics, budgets, control costs, and contribute to cost-saving initiatives while maintain high service standards.
Problem Solving and Decision Making: Strong analytical skills with the ability to quickly assess situations, identify risks, and implement effective solutions to optimize operations and solve complex logistics challenges.
Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge: Deep understanding of complex pharmaceutical regulatory frameworks including GDP, serialization, DSCSA, import/export laws, customs requirements, and emerging global regulations. Experience with regulatory audit management, quality systems implementation, and compliance risk assessment.
Organizational Leadership & Transformation: Proven track record of leading large, diverse, geographically distributed teams through complex organizational transformations. Experience with matrix management, cultural change initiatives, and advanced talent development programs.
Leadership and People Management: Experience leading large, diverse, cross-functional teams across multiple locations. Strong ability to lead through change, promote a culture of continuous improvement and drive operational excellence.
Preferred:
Advanced Education: An MBA or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
Pharmaceutical of Life Sciences Industry Experience: Previous experience working in logistics or distribution for a pharmaceutical or life sciences company is highly preferred, given the specific regulatory and compliance requirements of the industry. Experience in vaccines, rare disease, rare blood and transplant is highly sought.
Experience with Lean and Continuous Improvement Methodologies: Expertise in implementing lean processes, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies to drive operational efficiency and performance improvements.
Digital Supply Chain Expertise: Knowledge of digital supply chain technologies, such as warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS) and data analytics tools for tracking and optimizing logistics performance.
Experience in Global or Regional Roles: Demonstrated experience working in a global or regional capacity with exposure to managing logistics in multiple countries or regions, particularly in regulated industries.
Change management and transformation experience: Experience leading large-scale change management initiatives, especially in transitioning or optimizing distribution models in complex environments.
