The SKANZ MCO Team at Sanofi is a high-performing team of medical leaders who are a trusted source of scientific and medical information and shared insights; effective and innovative strategic partners to our internal and external stakeholders; and dedicated to public health. Main Responsibilities:

  • The role of MCO Medical Lead, Adult Vaccines, carries broad responsibility for a product portfolio that crosses franchise lines.
  • As their primary focus, the role leads the medical and scientific (non-promotional) strategy for products predominantly serving adult populations in a cross-franchise manner in close partnership with the functional franchise heads and in alignment with the overall strategies of relevant franchises represented in the Adult Vaccines portfolio.
  • In addition, at the country level where the role is located, it secondarily supports paediatric respiratory vaccines in a transversal and collaborative fashion, partnering with the Paediatric Vaccines Medical Team to represent a “One Respiratory” way of working.

Strategy

  • Be accountable for the development and execution of the MCO and local country Medical Roadmap, integrated Medical Action Plan and integrated Evidence Generation Plan (iEGP)
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of projects and activities for the Medical Team and work in close collaboration with other departments including brand teams and Public Affairs
  • Work with various internal stakeholders to align on strategy including
  • Country Medical Heads
  • Country Medical Advisors
  • Global Medical Teams to ensure alignment of the MCO / local country medical strategies
  • Additional cross-functional internal stakeholders to develop strategic imperatives and downstream strategies and tactics to support portfolio goals
  • Medical colleagues leading respiratory paediatric vaccines to ensure cross-portfolio collaboration and representation where required
  • Provide strategic guidance and insights on complex product and medical issues
  • Lead and drive the development of advanced medical and scientific strategies for the product portfolio, incorporating portfolio-specific details and increased complexity

Data Generation

  • Develop and implement comprehensive evidence generation strategies to support in-market and new product planning (early development through post-marketing), including strategies for the identification, collection, evaluation, and analysis of real-world evidence (RWE) and other data sources to support research initiatives and business objectives
  • Unlock value from real-world data by translating into actionable insights and evidence to understand patient needs, inform regulatory and access decision-making, change medical practice, and improve health outcomes
  • Lead the analysis and interpretation of real-world data, employing advanced statistical methods and epidemiological techniques in collaboration with internal and external experts
  • Provide guidance and support to cross-functional teams on the use and interpretation of RWE in decision-making processes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders including clinical research units, medical affairs, market access, and commercial teams to identify research questions and generate evidence-based insights
  • Co-create and contribute to integrated evidence generation plans (iEGP) with R&D, Clinical Development, and MCO/country cross-functional partners, ensuring needs are addressed while supporting global objectives for product development, regulatory submissions and market access
  • For assigned product portfolio, serve as the local medical RWE expert and central connection with global RWE experts to ensure excellence in execution on brand RWE strategies, data strategies, and transformational initiatives
  • Design and oversee Sanofi-sponsored studies (Phase 4 post-marketing, observational studies, RWE studies), registries, and retrospective database analyses, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical standards
  • Oversee process management and Progress of investigator-initiated study (IIS) projects

New Products and Innovation (NPI)

  • Development and execution of a NPI Medical Roadmap through phase II clinical development
  • Work with R&D and Clinical Development teams (particularly the Translational Science Hub [TSH]) to provide necessary medical input to clinical development programs
  • Cultivate an innovation mindset in supporting evidence generation plans for candidates in early development and providing country level insights for product strategy
  • Maintain a portfolio mindset, serving as primary point of contact for near-term business and development licensing opportunities

People Leadership

  • Lead directly reporting Medical Team members and indirectly, other Medical colleagues supporting the adult vaccines portfolio
  • Create a best-in-class talent pipeline by developing, identifying, and attracting talent
  • Serve as a role model that embodies Sanofi’s culture
  • Foster growth and development through clear performance expectations and regular coaching/feedback, encouraging a culture of continuous learning, and improvement
  • Facilitate a positive and inclusive team culture that values diversity, excellence, and collaboration
  • Collaborate with internal partners to acquire, retain, and develop talent

External Stakeholder Engagement

  • Operate with a field focus to ensure alignment of office-based and field-based activities including
  • Developing field medical plans
  • Executing and monitoring against defined field medical metrics
  • Conduct and maintain in-depth stakeholder engagement plans for adult vaccines
  • Identify and address challenges to vaccines access and optimal patient care through partnership with medical centres, academic institutions, healthcare professionals, health departments and professional societies
  • Provide a high scientific level of expertise within the Medical Team; develop and lead collaborations with key experts in the field
  • Maintain relationships with key professional societies and key experts
  • Provide guidance on adult vaccine products and related medical issues and seek impactful insights
  • Provide scientific education on disease states, epidemiology, and clinical trials when relevant
  • Lead external advisory boards focused on adult vaccine products and related pipeline
  • Foster collaborations with key experts in the field, leveraging advanced scientific expertise

Medical Operations

  • Provide Medical guidance to internal Sanofi customers, including contribution of Medical information and clinical trial data for pharmacovigilance (PV) reports to health authorities
  • Oversee creation of educational materials and presentations for use by the Medical Team, development of scientific communication and education initiatives using scientific/medical expertise, customer insights, and understanding of launch strategy; train and educate internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and oversee the medical portfolio budget, ensuring optimal resource allocation and cost-effective approaches are used to achieve strategic objectives

About you

Education/Experience/Certification:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate level education: MD or equivalent medical degree preferred, PhD or PharmD
  • 5+ years’ experience in Medical Affairs, ideally with experience in relevant therapeutic areas
  • 3+ years' experience in managing teams
  • Ability to travel up to 20-30% of the time

Preferred Experience / Qualifications:

  • Clinical experience
  • Recognised by therapeutic area experts as being knowledgeable in relevant areas or related disciplines
  • Relevant experience either from academia/research and/or preferably from the pharma industry with relevant customer knowledge
  • Data needs and/or data sources analysis for disease areas or pharmaceutical products
  • Strategic evidence generation
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems across the MCO

Soft & Technical Skills:

  • Strong business acumen to create compelling and effective medical strategies that serve to benefit patients, HCPs, and other key external stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively manage a team
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate clinical studies, both interventional and observational
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing, and networking skills with an ability to work as part of a cross-functional and multicultural team
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously; plan, prioritize and implement actions using a self-dependent and structured working style
  • Ability to effectively engage with key external stakeholders and build long-term partnerships with medical authorities, hospitals, physicians/specialists, opinion leaders and pharmacists
  • Ability to embrace innovation and analyse information and emerging trends, including social, policy and access-related information, incorporating them into the Medical Plans
  • Strong portfolio management skills to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Good working knowledge of the commercial strategy (e.g. market share, competitors, product positioning) and ability to adapt evidence strategy in anticipation of market changes
