POSITION OVERVIEW

The Head of Creative Studio & Scientific Visual Communication is a senior strategic leadership role, responsible for defining and driving the creative and visual communication vision across the entire Medical Services, Business Operations organization. This role operates as a transversal capability, serving all functions, therapeutic areas and geographies within Medical Services, Business Operations.

This position leads a global team of graphic designers, content specialists and creative professionals to deliver high-quality, impactful visual communications that support scientific and medical content at scale across the organization. As a transversal function, the role establishes creative standards, governance frameworks and scalable service models that enable consistent excellence across all Medical Services, Business Operations outputs. The Head of Creative Studio & Scientific Visual Communication plays a pivotal role in transforming complex medical and scientific information into compelling, accessible and visually engaging content that meets the highest standards of quality, compliance and creativity. The role champions innovation in visual storytelling, drives the adoption of emerging technologies and digital tools, and ensures creative consistency across all Medical Services, Business Operations communications worldwide.

This role is a key strategic partner in driving the Medical Services, Business Operations transformation agenda, influencing enterprise-level decisions and shaping the future of medical content and creative services across the organization. The role collaborates closely with LT peers across all Medical Services, Business Operations functions and represents the creative capability in senior forums, building trusted relationships with stakeholders globally to deliver world-class medical communications that ultimately serve the needs of patients and healthcare professionals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Serve as a member of the Global Scientific Communications, Medical Information, Graphic Studio & Creativity

Leadership Team, contributing to the overall strategic direction and transformation agenda of the organization

  • Define and execute the creative and visual communication strategy across the entire Medical Services, Business Operations organization, aligned with global medical services priorities

  • Drive the transformation agenda for visual and creative capabilities, positioning the function as a world-class transversal service

  • Partner with LT peers to integrate creative excellence into all Medical Services, Business Operations strategic initiatives and programs

  • Lead innovation in visual storytelling and scientific communication, setting new standards for the industry

  • Shape the future vision for medical content enhancement and creative services, anticipating evolving organizational and stakeholder needs

  • Represent the Medical Services, Business Operations creative capability in enterprise-level strategic discussions and cross-organizational forums

  • Contribute to broader Medical Services, Business Operations leadership decisions as a full member of the Leadership Team Transversal Capability Leadership

  • Establish and govern creative standards, guidelines and quality frameworks across all Medical Services, Business Operations functions and therapeutic areas

  • Build a scalable creative services model capable of serving the full breadth of the global Medical Services, Business Operations organization

  • Create centers of excellence for specialized creative capabilities (e.g., data visualization, digital media, scientific illustration)

  • Drive consistency and quality across all Medical Services, Business Operations visual communications, regardless of function or geography

  • Enable self-service creative capabilities while maintaining rigorous quality standards

  • Develop and implement a creative governance framework with clear decision rights, prioritization criteria and escalation pathways

  • Define and manage the operating model for transversal creative services, including service delivery frameworks and SLAs

Team Management & Development

  • Lead a global, distributed creative team as a transversal capability serving the full Medical Services, Business Operations organization

  • Build a high-performing, inclusive creative organization that reflects Sanofi's values and culture

  • Foster a culture of innovation, creative excellence, psychological safety and cross-functional collaboration

  • Drive talent development, succession planning and the creation of structured learning and development programs

  • Conduct performance management and career development conversations aligned with individual and organizational goals

  • Attract and retain world-class creative talent to continuously strengthen the function's capabilities

Operational Excellence

  • Design and implement the operating model for transversal creative services, ensuring efficient and effective delivery at scale

  • Establish service delivery frameworks, SLAs and transparent prioritization criteria to manage competing organizational demands

  • Optimize resource allocation across the portfolio of Medical Services, Business Operations creative projects and priorities

  • Implement portfolio management practices to provide visibility, governance and accountability across all creative workstreams

  • Drive efficiency through process optimization, workflow automation and technology adoption

  • Define, monitor and report on capability performance metrics and business impact to the Medical Services, Business Operations Leadership Team

  • Manage vendor relationships and external creative partnerships to augment internal capabilities as needed

Stakeholder Collaboration & Influence

  • Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with senior stakeholders across all Medical Services, Business Operations functions, therapeutic areas and geographies

  • Partner with LT peers to ensure creative and visual communication excellence is embedded in all major Medical Services, Business Operations initiatives

  • Influence strategic decisions through deep expertise in creative and visual communication, bringing an informed external perspective

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that require creative excellence and transversal coordination

  • Represent Medical Services, Business Operations creative capability in enterprise forums, including collaborations with Corporate Communications, Brand and other creative functions across Sanofi

  • Proactively understand and anticipate stakeholder needs, providing strategic creative consultation at all organizational levels

Innovation & Technology

  • Champion the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI-assisted design, automation and digital platforms, to continuously elevate creative services

  • Drive the digital transformation of creative services, piloting innovative approaches to visual communication

  • Stay ahead of industry trends and best practices in design, digital media and medical communications

  • Build strategic partnerships with technology vendors and creative agencies to access cutting-edge capabilities

  • Evaluate and implement new tools and platforms that enhance team productivity, output quality and scalability

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure all creative outputs comply with applicable regulatory requirements, medical-legal-regulatory (MLR) review processes and company standards across all Medical Services, Business Operations functions

  • Maintain robust quality control processes and approval workflows at a transversal level

  • Implement risk management frameworks for content development and creative delivery across the organization

  • Stay current with industry regulations and guidelines affecting medical and scientific communications

  • Promote and embed a quality-first mindset across the transversal creative capability

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Fine Arts or related field

  • 12+ years of experience in creative services, with significant pharmaceutical or healthcare industry experience

  • 7+ years in senior leadership roles managing creative teams and functions

  • Proven track record leading transversal capabilities in complex matrix organizations

  • Experience as a member of leadership teams or senior management forums, with demonstrated executive presence

  • Deep expertise in visual design, medical and scientific communication

  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking capabilities, with the ability to connect creative excellence to organizational outcomes

  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior and executive levels

  • Demonstrated experience driving organizational transformation and change

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and modern creative technologies and platforms

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field

  • Experience in global pharmaceutical or life sciences organizations

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for medical communications (MLR, promotional and non-promotional content)

  • Experience with AI and emerging creative technologies
