Role Summary
We are looking for a Technical Manager to serve as the organization's technical authority for enterprise compute platforms. You will lead the engineering strategy for both Windows and Linux environments, bridging operating system expertise with automation-first principles. In this role, you will oversee the design, automation, and operation of infrastructure across hybrid cloud environments (Azure, AWS, on-premises VMware) while ensuring alignment with GxP regulatory standards and driving the organization's digital transformation journey.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Strategy & Platform Architecture
Unified Roadmap: Define and drive the future state of the unified platform, aligning on-premises legacy systems with scalable cloud innovation in Azure and AWS.
Lifecycle Management: Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle for Windows Server (2016-2025) and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7, 8, 9), including planning, hardening standards (CIS, STIG), and end-of-life migrations.
Patching & Compliance: Architect robust patch management strategies using Red Hat Satellite (for Linux) and WSUS/SCCM/Intune (for Windows) to ensure content lifecycle management and strict GxP compliance reporting.
2. Automation & Engineering Leadership
Automation Center of Excellence: Lead the maturity of the Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), overseeing the creation of sophisticated workflows for provisioning, configuration management, and orchestration across both OS families.
DevSecOps Integration: Drive the design and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ensuring they are integrated with Ansible playbooks for automated OS image baking, testing, and deployment.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Champion the use of IaC principles to develop and optimize golden image pipelines across Azure, AWS, and VMware environments.
3. Team Management & Stakeholder Partnership
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with application owners, DBAs (SQL Server, Oracle), and development teams to translate complex business requirements into standardized, compliant platform capabilities.
Escalation Management: Serve as the ultimate escalation point for critical platform issues, leading root cause analysis and driving permanent remediation for high-priority incidents.
Mentorship: Mentor engineers on fundamentals, automation techniques (PowerShell, Python, Bash), and troubleshooting methodologies, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
Qualifications
Experience: 10+ years of hands-on system administration experience (Windows or Linux) with a strong background in hybrid cloud environments.
Industry Background: Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or other regulated environments, with a deep understanding of GxP, GAMP 5, and Computer System Validation (CSV) processes.
Primary Tech Stack:
Cloud: Extensive experience with AWS (EC2, Systems Manager) and Azure (VMs, Azure Automation, Arc).
Automation: Expert proficiency with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) and GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
OS: Deep understanding of Windows internals (Registry, WMI) and Linux internals (systemd, kernel parameters).
Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and a proven track record of partnering with application teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications: Microsoft Certified (Hybrid Administrator/Azure Administrator) or Red Hat Certified (RHCE/RHCA).
Containerization: Experience with Windows Containers/Docker and OpenShift/Kubernetes.
Tools: Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault, Terraform, and observability tools like Splunk or Datadog.
