Personnel Cost / Resource Team — Controlling Operations, Americas
Function Finance — Controlling Operations
Scope Shared analytical support across the team's four Americas perimeters (North America, Brazil and other Latin American markets), as assigned by the Personnel Cost Team Lead
Role Summary
The Financial Analyst provides shared analytical and data-preparation support across the Personnel Cost Team's four Americas perimeters, executing standardized headcount and personnel cost procedures with rigor, accuracy and timeliness. Working within Sanofi's Global Process Model and under the guidance of the Senior Financial Analysts who each own a perimeter, the Financial Analyst applies defined methodologies across the full set of personnel cost analytical natures — salaries, bonuses, social charges, incentives, pensions and related benefits — and prepares the sanity checks, data reconciliations and draft Level 1 (fact-based) commentary that feed into each perimeter's forecast and closing packages. The role is strictly scoped to Level 1 analysis: Level 2 business narrative is prepared separately by Controllers and Finance Business Partners. This is a hands-on, detail-driven role that builds a strong foundation in FP&A and cost controlling while gaining exposure to multiple markets across the Americas.
Main responsibilities:
Forecast Support (Quarterly Rolling Forecast & Budget)
- Sanity checks: Execute the standard forecast data sanity checks (headcount validation, negative values, decimals, AA14 data consistency, variance and trend flags, organizational structure changes) per the global forecast calendar, and prepare the data-quality summary for Controllers' review.
- Headcount forecast support: Reconcile headcount forecast loads against Workday/PRISM movement reports (hires, terminations, open requisitions) and flag unrealistic phasing for review by the Senior Analyst or Controllers.
- Analytical nature (AN) forecasting: Apply the documented forecast methodology for assigned analytical natures (e.g., Salaries, Bonuses, Holidays/Leaves, Social Charges, Pension Contributions, Incentive Schemes, Detached Personnel and other personnel-related costs), using standard templates and system tools (TM1, PAFE).
- Baseline preparation: Prepare baseline comparisons (Workday initialization vs. actuals, historical trend vs. run-rate) and calculate the resulting proposed adjustments for review before loading into TM1.
- Package deliverables: Contribute to the forecast package (sanity check files, personnel cost planning templates, TM1 back-ups) shared with Controllers' teams for validation ahead of each forecast cycle.
Monthly Closing Support
- Closing sanity checks: Perform the recurring closing sanity checks (TM1 vs. Workday headcount validation, monthly hire/termination/movement review, AA14 posting accuracy, Personnel Cost vs. Headcount trend comparisons) within the defined D+1 to D+4 calendar.
- Reporting: Prepare preliminary and final headcount and personnel cost closing reports using standard templates, ensuring data reconciles across Local ERP, TM1 and A2R sources.
- Variance analysis (Level 1 only): Execute the standard cost & volume analysis (isolating headcount/movement effect from rate/cost effect) and draft fact-based, systems-traceable Level 1 commentary — what happened, when, and how much — for variances that meet the defined materiality thresholds, submitting drafts to the Senior Financial Analyst owning the relevant perimeter for review prior to release to Controllers. Level 2 business narrative is out of scope for this role.
- Adjustments & follow-up: Request routine reclassifications or corrections from A2R, People & Culture (P&C) or other stakeholder teams, track resolution, and escalate unresolved items to the relevant Senior Financial Analyst.
Data, Systems & Stakeholder Coordination
- System stewardship: Maintain the accuracy and consistency of personnel cost assumptions in TM1 across forecast and closing cycles, and support cost center maintenance/change requests in Workday.
- Stakeholder support: Respond to routine data requests from Controllers, P&C, Mobility, Facilities and GTMC teams across the perimeters supported, in coordination with the relevant Senior Financial Analyst, and support the review of Personnel Cost indicators against Analytical Natures versus A2R data.
- Cross-perimeter flexibility: Rotate or reprioritize support across the team's four perimeters based on cycle deadlines and workload, maintaining consistent quality and methodology regardless of the perimeter being supported.
- Process compliance: Follow established RACI, communication (email/SharePoint) and materiality-threshold protocols consistently, flagging any gap or exception rather than resolving it unilaterally.
- Continuous learning: Build Progressive expertise across the full personnel cost analytical nature catalogue and the AI-assisted baseline process, under the guidance of the Senior Financial Analyst.
About you
- Experience: Approximately 1–3 years of experience in FP&A, cost controlling, accounting or a related finance function; prior experience in a shared services / Global Business Services (GBS) or multinational environment is a plus.
- Soft and technical skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, lookups); exposure to TM1, Workday, SAP or similar ERP/EPM platforms is advantageous but not required at entry.
- Comfortable working with large data sets, structured templates and recurring monthly/quarterly deadlines. Proficiency in Excel-based financial analysis and reconciliation.
- Familiarity with core financial/cost-accounting concepts (P&L structure, cost centers, accruals).
- Ability to learn and operate within EPM/consolidation tools (TM1 or equivalent) and Workday-based reporting (e.g., PRISM).
- Basic data visualization / Power BI literacy is a plus.
- Soft Skills
- High attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage recurring deadlines across multiple cost centers/countries.
- Clear, concise written communication for variance commentary.
- Collaborative, service-oriented mindset when engaging with Controllers and cross-functional teams.
- Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn increasingly complex methodologies.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
- Languages: Fluent business English required (written and spoken); Spanish and/or Portuguese proficiency is a strong asset given the team's Americas-wide remit.
