About the Job

Sanofi Intrépide Research Laboratories is a new initiative designed to identify, incubate, validate and advance science, technology and business opportunities that are deemed to be crucial for Sanofi’s near-, mid- and long-term pipeline strategy. It has a global presence, China and US. For our US operations, it consists of the Intrépide Core Team, offering strategic, scientific, technological and operational support, and several Research Laboratories, focusing on science and executing breakthrough projects.

We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking, and exceptional scientist to join our Sanofi Intrépide Core Team as the Intrépide Research Fellow. This prestigious role calls for a seasoned and imaginative scientific leader with broad expertise in basic and molecular sciences and technology. The ideal candidate is deeply curious, intellectually fearless, and driven by a passion for solving complex scientific and technological challenges. Main Responsibilities:

Innovation and Scientific Leadership

• Monitor scientific breakthroughs in Sanofi business focused areas and identify opportunities that could enrich and accelerate our R&D pipeline
• Conduct sophisticated analyses of emerging scientific domains to identify non-obvious breakthrough opportunities
• Focused on generating transformative innovations that fundamentally advance therapeutic development, representing the pinnacle of scientific creativity and expertise
• Conduct trend analysis and produce white papers, reports, presentations and publications on innovation themes
• Serve as a residence scientific mentor to the Research Laboratories to drive scientific advancement, progressing programs with high level of scientific rigor, with creativity and breakthrough
• Drive an Intrépide Research Lab if needed to lead the team to overcome scientific and technical challenges and advance the projects
• Champion biotech-inspired culture and operating models to transform organizational ways of working

Program Development & Governance

• Mentor the teams to formulate and mature proposals to be the review by Intrépide Board for program entry and advancement decisions
• Chairing the proposal evaluation committee to govern the quality and strategic fitness of the final proposals for Intrépide Board's approval.
• Be a key player of developing KPIs and frameworks to measure the success and scalability of innovation initiatives

Scientific Excellence & Methodology

• Apply first principles thinking to overcome fundamental scientific barriers in drug discovery and clinical back-translations
• Contribute to elegant translational strategies connecting basic science discoveries to clinical applications
• Establish cutting-edge methodologies for experimental design and validation that elevate research quality and scientific advancement
• Develop novel mechanistic hypotheses and unconventional approaches to challenging disease targets, mechanistic questions and molecular designs
• Synthesize insights across diverse scientific fields to create unique solutions

External Collaboration & Value Creation

• Establish and nurture strategic relationships with KOLs to leverage diverse and pertained expertise
• Identify emerging technologies, startups, and research Sanofi's strategic focus and adjacent areas and synthesize them into actionable proposals for Intrépide Research Labs
• Design and facilitate innovation sprints, ideation workshops, and pilot projects with internal and external partners (in collaboration with existing External Innovation initiatives)
• Cultivate development and testing of new concepts, working alongside internal TAs, PFs other innovation teams
• Generate foundational scientific concepts that form the basis for high-value patent portfolios

About You

Basic Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in STEM field (e.g., biology, biochemistry, biophysics).
• 15+ years of academic research on biological pathways and MoAs, with industrial, biotech or pharma, exposure in drug discovery

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong record of scientific publications in high impact journals
• Track record of publishing or speaking on innovation-related topics
• Strong understanding of open innovation, emerging technologies, and collaborative models
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Entrepreneurial mindset and experience working in fast-paced, dynamics environments.
• Experience in working across internal organizational functions (TAs, PFs, Portfolio Strategy, BD, External Innovations and Legal/IP) and external partners

The salary range for this position is:

$180,000.00 - $300,000.00
