The upstream day shift manager is responsible for the production of fermentation and harvest in cP according to production plans and in compliance with cGMP. The incumbent is responsible for managing thedailyacitivitiesofunionizedstaffinacGMPfacilityincompliancewithcompanypolicies.Thisincludes responsibility for the scheduling and execution of all operations with adequate level of GMP documentation required to release the products. This includes adherence to SOPs, cGMP and HSE procedures.

MainResponsibilities:

PlanningandExecution

• Ensurethegoodexecutionoftheproductionschedule.

• Ensuresdetailedscheduleoffermentationandharvest.

• Ensuresavailabilityofrawmaterials,accuracyofinventory&recipes,trainedstaff,adequate SAP-trained staff, & maintenance & availability of validated facility and equipment.

• EnsuresproductionordersandSAPtransactionandSPCdataentriesaremaintainedina timely manner; share responsibilities for monitoring SPC, data review and control.

• Monitors&communicatesplannedandactualfermentationdeliveries,andoperationsusing

• visiblemetrics.

• Ensuresdailypresenceontheshopfloor.

• Responsibleformaintaining,completingandreleasingBPR’s.

• Assistintheannualdepartmentaloperatingbudgetandnon-strategiccapitalinvestmentand monitor against spending.

• Ensurecommunicationacrossshiftforupstreamoperationstopics(escalation,cascading).

cGMP Compliance & Quality

• WorkswithQOOQandQOSA;ensurecompliancewithGMPrequirements,developquality continuous improvement initiatives, develop staff quality culture and GMP knowledge.

• Ensures standards operating procedures are current and adhered too; that production recordsareaccurateandreviewedandsignedbyanauthorizedperson;adherencetopolicy; compliance of facilities & equipment; process deviations and environmental incidents are minimized and root causes are identified and corrected; ensures staff training records are complete and current.

• Ensuretheareas,labsanddocumentationareinspectionready.

Peopleand Development

• Organizes and develops staff to ensure a high performing team; establishes, monitors and providesindividualfeedbackonstaffobjectives;ensurestrainingofstaffaccordingtotraining plans and to continue to develop their competencies; coach staff on personal development goals and document follow up.

• ContributestothecPBulkmanagementteam,communicatesandco-operateswithother departments to obtain consensus and ensure appropriate service levels.

• Hirenewemployeesandfollowcompany’sdiscipleprocedures;responsibleforattendance management and time reporting system.

ContinuousImprovement

•  Follows & enhances lean management systems established for Bulk; ensures continuous improvement processes; identifies root cause of production problems; identifies non-value addedactivities,otherwasteandpotentialimprovementsinprocessefficiency,qualityand/or yield; implements solutions or changes via change control; plans and manages facility and organization improvements.

• Providesmetricsandotherreportsasrequested.

• Participates in special projects for production process improvement projects to simplify processes,meetGMPrequirements,addressinspectionobservations,newtechnologiesand reduce costs to assist in development and quality goals.

Accountablefor asafeworkplacebysupervisingandmonitoringcompliancewithemploymentand health&safetylegislationtoensure:

• That employees work within the policies, procedures and regulations including responding promptly to all health and safety concerns or incidents; critical incidents and accidents are reportedtotheappropriateauthorities;potentialsafetyandhealthhazardsareidentifiedand known by staff and that protective equipment and clothing are required and are used; continuous EHS awareness and improvement by integrating team with site and Bulk initiatives.

• CooperationwithandassistancetotheEHSmanagementandJointHealthandSafety Committee in carrying out their functions.

About You

KeyRequirements:

• Preferredpost-graduateinMicrobiology/Biochemistry/EngineeringorRelatedScience.

• MinimumBScinMicrobiology/Biochemistry/RelatedSciencewithexperienceandadditional business and management training.
