MISSION STATEMENT

The Enterprise Risk Manager at Opella is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of the company's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework. This role ensures that all areas of the organization can identify, assess, manage, and report on key risks. While the manager will provide support to the Risk and Audit Committees and ensure effective risk governance, they do not directly implement risk mitigation actions but rather enable the respective leaders to do so.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Risk Management and Program Design

  • Develop and continually refine the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program across all operations and functions.
  • Establish and update the Global Risk Management Policy and any associated governance documents.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to identify, evaluate, and prioritize both existing and emerging risks, ensuring a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Define the company’s Risk Appetite, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and stakeholder expectations.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Risk Taxonomy (or Risk Universe) that defines and categorizes the company’s standard risks, ensuring consistency across the organization’s risk assessments.

Risk Committee Leadership and Facilitation

  • Act as Secretary of the Risk Committee, supporting its creation and facilitating all activities:
    • Facilitate the periodic assessment of company-wide risks, updating the Opella Risk Profile annually.
    • Organize regular reviews of risk mitigation plans for critical risks and coordinate presentations by Risk Leaders to the Committee.
    • Present the Opella Risk Profile and significant risk updates to the Executive Committee at least annually.
    • Ensure ongoing tracking of risk response plans, regularly reporting progress to the ExCom.

Audit Committee Engagement

  • Collaborate with the Audit Committee, presenting the company’s risk management framework and activities annually.
  • Ensure the Audit Committee is regularly updated on risk response progress for critical risks.

Risk Leadership and Advisory

  • Provide strategic advice and risk insights to senior leadership, including the CEO, especially in cases of emerging risks requiring immediate action.
  • Offer expertise in developing risk mitigation strategies and ensuring adherence to risk governance best practices.
  • Encourage a risk-aware culture through the design and delivery of training and communication initiatives company-wide.

Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

  • Stay informed on industry trends and regulatory changes affecting risk management.
  • Drive continuous improvement in Opella’s risk management framework by applying leading-edge practices.
  • Regularly assess and update risk management tools, technology, and processes to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the ERM program.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Global Functions and business unit leaders to support ongoing operational risk assessments in their areas, ensuring integrated risk management across the organization.
  • Coordinate with Internal Audit, Ethics & Business Integrity, Internal Control, Legal, and other stakeholders to align risk management practices.

REQUIREMENTS

Required skills and qualifications

  • Expertise in risk assessment tools and advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen ability to assess risk and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing senior leaders and committees.
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken).
